    Hey,

I heard the Tab Benoit show was cancelled as he had been double booked. I still can find no show for Tab on that date on his website or Pollstar. In fact, when Robin talked to him last week, he was completely unaware of the cancellation. He specifically said he had been looking forward to the show in Kazoo at the State with our raucous crowd. He also said he would miss hanging out at the 411 with Marty, The Out Of Favor Boys and us great unwashed. While you can’t complain about a Pinetop appearance, many of us look forward to Tab’s annual show. In general, many plans had been made to bring families together for this great experience. We’ve perhaps been spoiled by the State Theatre and the KVBA bringing Tab and Tommy Castro to us each year. They never fail to bring us great entertainment for a reasonable price. Last night in Detroit was an utterly fantastic Deanna Bogart show for $20. Worth every penny of it. That’s comparable in price to an advance ticket to the Kalamazoo Blues Fest. Three Days straight of some mighty hot bands. These guys and gals don’t let us down. Tell ‘em it’s OK and we’ll get Tab next year. Keep supporting live music because you’re creating jobs and buying American.

OK, I’ve heard two versions to the tale. The first was that he was spending to much time on the Road and his family wants him to take a break. the second was that he could get gigs coming up this way, but not home. So he gets a well deserved month off, either way.

Pinetop info at the State: Obviously he doesn’t play by himself. He’s scheduled to have Bob Stroger on Bass; Willie Smith, maybe on drums, maybe not; On guitar sounds like it will be Michiana’s Little Frank from South Bend. Some of you will have seen him headlining with Big Jack Johnson at our 2008 Kalamazoo Blues Fest. I don’t want anyone to miss the Valentine’s Party/KVBA Second Sunday fundraiser at the 411 2/14, but he’ll be playing at the Midway in Mishawauka Valentine’s Day. It’ll be IBC Finalist Six Hands Down and Fifi and the Dogs here in Kalamazoo at the 411. At the Midway will be the best Blues voice there is in Kim Wilson plus Billy Flynn, Barrelhouse Chuck, Frank, Randy Bermudez(sp?), and Richard Innes. There’s always choices to be made in life. I’ll go with the fundraiser, ’cause it sounds like there could be an especially fun lineup shaping up.
